How Much Does Moving Cost in Israel? What Sets the Price

What decides the price of a move in Israel: floors, elevator, access, volume, packing, assembly and date. How to compare quotes and ask for a closed price in writing.

Short answer: there is no standard price for moving in Israel. Two apartments with the same number of rooms can cost very different amounts, because the price follows the floors, the stairs, the elevator, where the truck can stop, how much you own, whether anyone packs or assembles, and which day you pick. Movers price from a list of those facts, and that list is what you should compare between quotes. This guide explains each piece, the three ways movers charge, what a written price should contain, and the warning signs. It has no prices on purpose, because a number without your details behind it is a guess.

Written in October 2026. Prices change, so the structure below is more useful than any figure you may find online.

The five questions every mover asks first

These decide most of the price, so have the answers ready before you ask anyone for a quote.

  1. Which two addresses? Street addresses, not just cities. A move across a crowded city center can take longer than a move between two quiet neighboring towns.
  2. Which floor at each end, and is there an elevator? “Elevator” should mean one that works and fits a sofa or a wardrobe. Many Israeli elevators are small, and a piece that does not fit goes down the stairs.
  3. How much is moving? Rooms, large items, and whether the boxes are already packed. Photos beat descriptions.
  4. How close can the truck stop? A truck that parks at the door means hours less carrying than one that must stop at the end of the street.
  5. Which day, and how fixed is it? Keys, leases and school calendars often fix the date, and the date affects availability and sometimes the price.

What drives the price

FactorWhy it mattersWhat you can do
VolumeMore items mean more working hours, and sometimes a bigger vehicle or a second trip.Sell, donate or throw away what you will not use before the quote, not after.
Floors and elevatorCarrying furniture down four flights takes far longer than rolling it into an elevator, and the same applies at the other end.Say honestly which end has stairs. Ask the building whether a service elevator can be reserved.
Access and parkingThe longer the carry from door to truck, the longer the job. Narrow streets and pedestrian zones add time.Check what your municipality requires for a truck to stop. See our moving day parking guide.
DistanceDriving time counts, and an intercity move can fill a whole day with loading, driving and unloading.Give the mover both addresses. See long distance moving.
PackingWrapping and boxing a household takes many hours and uses materials.Pack the sturdy items yourself and hand over the glass, mirrors and kitchen. See packing services.
Furniture assemblyWardrobes, beds and desks that come apart must be taken down and rebuilt.List each piece. See furniture assembly.
Special equipmentA crane lift for a balcony or window when the stairwell is too tight, or extra hands for a very heavy item.Measure the largest pieces against doors and stairs before you ask for a price.
Date and timeMonth ends, summer, Fridays and the days before holidays tend to book first.Offer a flexible or midweek date if you can.
Waiting and delaysLate keys, an unbooked elevator or unfinished packing burn paid time.Confirm the handover time and leave a buffer.

Three ways movers charge

Quotes in Israel generally come in one of three forms, and the same move can be priced in any of them.

  • A closed price for the job. The usual form for a full apartment move. It is only as good as the list behind it. If the list is accurate, you know the total before the day.
  • An hourly rate. Common for small jobs where the scope is hard to predict. Ask how many movers the rate covers, the minimum hours, whether travel time is counted, and what happens if the job runs over.
  • A price per item or per trip. Typical for a single bulky piece such as a refrigerator or a sofa. It stops being the simplest option the moment you add a second item or a staircase.

None of the three is better in itself. A closed price protects you when you know your scope, and an hourly rate suits a small, simple job. What matters is that you know which one you are being offered.

What a written price should say

If a quote fits in one line, it will be hard to compare. A useful one covers:

  • both addresses, the floor at each end, and whether an elevator is available
  • the items or rooms included, and anything excluded
  • who packs what, and whether boxes and wrapping are in the price
  • which furniture is taken apart and rebuilt
  • extras such as a crane lift or a long carry, and whether they are in the total
  • the date and the arrival time window
  • when and how payment is due, and a receipt or invoice for what you pay
  • what happens to the price if the list changes on the day
  • what cover the moving company has for damage, and its limit, in writing

Why two quotes for the same move differ

The lowest number usually belongs to the shortest list. One quote assumes the elevator works, another has seen the narrow stairwell. One counts the boxes you will not have time to pack, another leaves wardrobe assembly for “extras on the day”. When quotes differ widely, do not average them. Put them side by side, line by line, using the list above, and ask each mover to fill the gaps: what is not included, and what would change the price on the day?

Be careful with figures from the internet too. Averages mix different cities, different buildings and different years, and they say nothing about your fourth-floor walk-up.

Three moves, three different price drivers

These examples carry no figures. They show which factor dominates in each case.

A studio in an elevator building, same city

The volume is small and the elevator removes the stairs. The job is mostly driving and a short time at each address, so the price follows hours, not items. This is the kind of job described under small moves.

A three-room apartment, from a fourth-floor walk-up to a second-floor apartment with an elevator

Here the stairs at the pickup end dominate. The same furniture takes far longer to bring down four flights than to roll into an elevator, and a wardrobe that cannot turn on the landing may need to be taken apart or lifted out through a window or balcony. Assembly and a possible crane lift matter more than volume.

A five-room apartment to a house in another city

Volume, distance and packing now drive the price, and the job may stretch across two days if loading, driving and unloading do not fit in one. A full-service move or a house move is priced as a project, with the stages listed.

Ways to lower the cost without cutting corners

  • Declutter first. Every box you do not move is a box you do not pay to move.
  • Be flexible on the date. A midweek, mid-month date is easier to fill than the last weekend of the month.
  • Pack the easy rooms yourself. Books, clothes and linen are safe to box at home. Leave glass, mirrors, televisions and the kitchen to people who wrap them regularly.
  • Reserve the elevator and the parking space. Delays at the building cost paid time.
  • Send photos. Pictures of the stairwell, the largest pieces and the street bring the first price closer to the final one.
  • Clear the path. Empty the hallways and balconies before the movers arrive.

Do not cut the written scope, the wrapping of valuable furniture, or the early booking. Those are the places where a low price turns into an expensive move.

Costs outside the mover's price

  • A parking or truck-stopping permit, where your municipality requires one. Rules and fees differ by city, so ask the municipality.
  • A deposit or booking for the service elevator in some buildings.
  • Boxes and wrapping, if they are not in the quote.
  • Storage, if the dates of your two homes do not match.
  • Setting up the new home: arnona, utilities and internet. Our guide to arnona and utilities when moving lists the steps.

Warning signs in a quote

  • A firm number given before anyone asked about floors, elevators or parking.
  • A price from a single phone call, with nothing in writing afterwards.
  • An hourly rate without a stated minimum, crew size or cap.
  • “Extras on the day” that nobody describes in advance.
  • Pressure to confirm on the spot, or a large cash deposit without a receipt.
  • No clear answer to the question “who exactly will carry out the move?”

Quick answers

How much do movers charge per hour in Israel?

Rates depend on the number of movers, the vehicle, the region and the date, and they change often, so this guide does not print one. Ask for the hourly rate together with the crew size, the minimum hours and whether travel time counts.

Is it cheaper to move yourself?

For a studio with few items, sometimes. For anything with stairs or a wardrobe, add the vehicle, the helpers, the fuel, the parking and the cost of a damaged piece, and compare the full total with a written price.

Does the price include packing?

Only if the quote says so. Packing is normally a separate line with its own materials.

When should I book?

As soon as the date is fixed. Month ends and summer fill first, and a short-notice date leaves less room to compare.

How MovingIL gives you a price

We do not publish a price list, for the reason above. Instead, you write to us in English on WhatsApp with the answers to the five questions and, if you can, a few photos. We check what is in scope, such as packing, furniture assembly and unpacking, and we ask the independent moving companies we work with about anything unusual, such as access or a crane lift, before the price is fixed. You then receive one closed price in writing, tied to your list. If the list changes, we confirm the new price with you before the work continues.

You can compare it line by line with any other quote using the checklist above. When you are ready, send the details through the quote form on the home page or the WhatsApp button on this page and ask for a closed price.
